JES developed the tool "Risk assessment and safety plans in cases of domestic violence and domestic abuse" for the M.A.I.E. of the Ministerio Público Honduras (RRPP), to strengthen the process of taking complaints from victims of abuse and provide quality care and warmth in Honduras.

JES en Honduras ha desarrollado la herramienta de “Valoración de riesgo y planes de seguridad en casos de violencia doméstica y maltrato familiar” al M.A.I.E. del Ministerio Público de Honduras, con el objetivo de fortalecer el proceso de la toma de denuncia a las víctimas de maltrato brindando una atención de calidad y calidez.

Last Thursday, Lali Pawa, Public Legal Educator and Team Lead at JES facilitated a full day session with BC Legislative Interns alongside legal educational presentations from the Judiciary, Crown and Court Staff. The interns also partook in a Mock Trial!

🇵🇦 From May 25 to June 15, 2022, the course on identification of human trafficking through interviewing victims was held with great success in Colón, with participants from different public institutions, such as the Judicial Branch, Public Ministry, Directorate of Judicial Investigation, National Police, Institute of Legal Medicine, National Border Service, National Immigration Service, and the Ministry of Education.

Thank you to the magistrate of the CSJ, Angela Russo of the Access to Justice and Gender Unit of the Judicial Branch and Silvia Cesar of the Unit of Identification and Attention to Victims against Trafficking in Persons in Panama of the Ministry of Security, for presenting the protocol for judicial action against and the detection form for victims of human trafficking in Panama.

🇵🇦 Del 25 de mayo al 15 de junio de 2022, se llevó acabo con gran éxito el curso identificación de la trata de personas a través de la entrevista a víctimas en la provincia de Colón, Panamá; con participantes de distintas instituciones públicas de Panamá como lo fueron: Órgano Judicial, Ministerio Público, Dirección de Investigación Judicial, Policía Nacional, Instituto de Medicina Legal, Servicio Nacional de Fronteras, Servicio Nacional de Migración y Ministerio de Educación.

Agradeciendo la intervención de la magistrada de la CSJ, Angela Russo de la Unidad de Acceso a la justicia y genero del Organo Judicial y la licenciada Silvia Cesar, de la Unidad de Identificación y Atención a Víctimas contra la Trata de Personas en Panamá del Ministerio de Seguridad, presentando el protocolo de actuación judicial contra el delito de y actividades conexas y el formulario de detección de las víctimas de trata de personas en Panamá.

On today, we continue to celebrate and honour the history, diversity, and leadership of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. It is a time to reflect on the unique voices, experiences, and achievements of Indigenous peoples—and recommit to educating ourselves about the land we live and work on to move forward with reconciliation.

Last week JES hosted a knowledge exchange between the Ombudsman’s Office for Human Rights in Procurador de los Derechos Humanos and its counterpart in Costa Rica Defensoríacr, as well as the Inter-American Court for Human Rights Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos and the Center for Justice and International Law-CEJIL.

Great to be part of this successful collaboration for the protection of human rights in the region with the support of Embajada de Suecia en Guatemala/Sveriges ambassad i Guatemala.

JES held an 'Introduction to Family Law' session in partnership with Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society (IMSS) of Prince George.

Canadian newcomers had the chance to learn about the basics of family law in from one of our Legal Educators and ask questions on marriage, separation and divorce in Canada.
